💡 Reflection:
This conference aims to encourage a reflection on the intersection between gender, sexuality, family and money for Uyghur women. It focuses specifically on deconstructing different aspects of the colonial project, directed and coordinated by the People’s Republic of China, such as patterns of domination affecting yerlik kinship networks. We wish to include a critical approach to the positionality of scholars working on these issues, while decolonising Uyghur studies through a reflection on the place of local researchers in this field, as well as on the power, or lack thereof, that these scholars have to define research methods, subjects of enquiry and framing, both within and outside the PRC from the 1950s to the present day.
✍️ To apply: Please send a 500-word abstract and a short biography (CV) to the following address before Friday 31st of May 2024: uyghur.studies@uyghur-institute.org. Notification of acceptance will be sent on Sunday 30th June 2024.
