Growing up as Uyghur overseas can be complicated at the best of times. That yearning for a sense of belonging may be all too familiar, and the search for identity equally as arduous. Nevertheless, over the last few years, there seems to be a renewed energy to create youth-led organisations around the world to build on the interconnectedness of the Uyghur community!

Here we highlight just three groups from three countries with large diaspora populations: the United Uyghur Youth (United States), Unga Uigurer (Sweden) and the Uyghur Youth Initiative (Germany).

United Uyghur Youth
United Uyghur Youth (UUY) is a not-for-profit youth-led organisation based in the United States. Built by youth for the proposes of serving the youth, UUY aims to bridge the gap between Uyghur communities across the world as well as empower the upcoming generation of Uyghurs. UUY have leveraged the utility of social media to collectivise the efforts of Uyghur youth across the world, paving the way for the facilitation of various events, workshops and advocacy initiatives. Their efforts in strengthening unity amongst the global youth community has culminated in a recent initiative that aims to send a cohort of youth to one of three countries to learn and explore history, culture and advocacy in a new environment. Such initiatives hope to not only empower youth but also bolster the interconnectedness of a community which seems to be increasingly disconnected.
Birleshme uyghur yashliri - amérikida qurulghan, yashlar bashchiliqidiki, payda almaydighan teshkilat. Yashlargha mulazimet qilish muddi'asi bilen yashlar teripidin yaritilghan. Bu teshkilat dunyaning herqaysi jayliridiki uyghurlarni baghlash we kélechek uyghur ewladlirini küchlendürüshni nishan qilidu. Ular ijtima'iy taratqularning rolidin yaxshi paydilinip,dunyaning her qaysi jayliridiki uyghur yashlirining tirishchanliqini birlikke keltürdi. Ularning dunya yashlar jemiyiti arisidiki birlikini kücheytish yolidiki tirishchanliqiliri bir türküm yashlarni üch döletning birsige bérip yéngi muhitta tarix, medeniyet, we terghibat teshwiqatni öginish we tekshürüshni meqset qilghan teshebbusta eng yuquri pellige chiqti. Unga Uigurer
Unga Uigurer was founded in 2023 by a group of Uyghurs in Sweden passionate about community and youth empowerment. Their shared desire to create a platform for Uyghur youth in Sweden to explore and express their identity culminated in the creation of ‘Unga Uigurer’ and the many initiatives that they have been able to make a reality. Such initiatives involved both collaborating with the Uyghur community first-hand through various events and workshops, as well as partnering with various Swedish NGOs and influencers to deliver community services and raise much needed awareness for the cause. Thus, their approach of both delivering first-hand services to the Uyghur youth and collaborating with Swedish NGOs have allowed them to not only make a direct impact in the Uyghur community but also broaden the perspectives of surrounding communities. Unga Uigurer hope to continue their efforts through the establishment of a summer camp that aims to foster creativity, learning and self-exploration through various artistic and educational activities.

Shunga, ularning uyghur yashlirigha biwaste mulazimet qilishi we shwétsiye ammiwi teshkilatliri bilen hemkarlishish usuli, ularning uyghur ammisigha biwasite tesir körsitipla qalmay etraptiki jemiyetlerning köz qarishini kéngeytishige imkaniyet hazirlap berdi. Uyghur yashliri teshkilati her xil senet we ma'arip pa'aliyetliri arqiliq ijadchanliq, öginish, we özi üstide izdinishni ilgiri süridighan yazliq lagér qurush arqiliq dawamliq tirishchanliq körsitishni ümid qilidu.

Uyghur Youth Initiative
Founded in 2022, Uyghur Youth Initiative (UYI) demonstrated a collective effort by the youth of one of the largest Uyghur diasporas in the West. Consisting mainly of volunteers from Munich and Frankfurt, UYI aimed to empower, ally and connect the Uyghur youth community in Germany. Very much like the previous two, UYI has been instrumental in youth empowerment and community building in Germany through the facilitation of education and advocacy. UYI have also done their part in mobilising the public through various protests and demonstrations both online and in-person. What makes their approach unique is their emphasis on the protection of human rights over cultural preservation, allowing their initiatives to reach the screens and hearts of diverse crowds of often tens of thousands.
Gherbtiki eng chong uyghur di'asporasining yashlirining kolliktip tirishchanliqini namayan qildighan uyghur yashlar teshebbusi bolsa 2022-yili qurulghan. Ular tor we emeliyettiki her xil namayish we qarshiliqlar bilen ammini seperwer qilishta öz hessisini qoshti. Ularning usulini özgiche qilidighini, ularning medeniyetni saqlap qélishtin köre bekrek kishilik hoquqni qoghdashni tekitlishi bolup, ularning teshebbusi nechche onminglighan oxshimighan ammining ékrani we qelbige yétidu.
These three organisations shine a light on the power of collective interest amidst a community of highly motivated and passionate youth. They also demonstrate how much power the upcoming generation can and do hold in creating social change, and in cultural preservation and propagation. Looking forward to seeing all that you do!
